Impressions was set up as an event by RobH and sponsored by MiniRealms. The driving idea was to have fun, to share painting methods and techniques, there were no prizes on offer and no winners, it was just about taking part.
It was inspired by the wonderful "Visions in Colour" event formerly run by Dominic Heutelback
The intention was that all participants would paint the same miniature so that the end result would be many painters different Impression of a single miniature...hence the name of the event.
The first Impressions was closest to this ideal, but featured a choice of 2 figures that could be painted (either or both) Taryn de Rovissi from Privateer press and Shinmen Tadaki from Warcrow.
Following this event the members of MiniRealms decided to change the format of the showcase to cover different aspects of the hobby.
The second event was to convert a figure by as a minimum changing weapons and changing or adding hairstyles and facial hair.
The 3rd showcase was about building scenery for a game system. The requirement was to build a supply facility appropriate to any game system chosen by the participant.
The 4th event had a theme of "Why walk when you can ride" and was a showcase of miniatures that were mounted or riding.
Where" Impressions" goes from here is up for debate now that we will be sponsoring it here. Should it revert back to the original concept or remain with a changing format, how often should it take place. What do you think?
