CmdrKiley's WWII Sci Fi Minis

Postby CmdrKiley on 12th Aug 07

Here's some minis I had been working on some time back and decided to pull them out now that I have a new camera.

These are AEWWII models from Darkson Designs. I really like the style and look of these minis. Basically he did what I wish was done for Dust. I was so disapointed Paolo Parente didn't do a 28mm mini game based on Dust but was so overjoyed when I saw the AEWWII stuff I ordered the first two starter sets when they initially posted on TMP.

Back in my day we didn't have that non-toxic pewter stuff. We played with lead...LEAD I TELL YA! and we liked it.

Very cool stuff, all around!

I love the basing on the mad scientist in the first group of pics!

Did it come with a base like that?

Chris (LeadAsbestos) uses some of these in his 1999 collection as proxies for the Demonics.
I quite like the experimental guys and could find a 1999 use for them, shamelessly pinching Chris' idea..

But in general I do not like the sculpting style of the Darkson figures, too thin and "stretched" for my taste.

For this genre I like the Wessex Geheimkrieg and WestWind Secrets of the Third Reich figures.

Interesting decision though, 2 distinct strands: WW2 Sci Fi with mech walkers and advanced weaponry as opposed to WW2 alt horror with zombies and genetic mutant weapons.

Actually the bases used for both mad scientists (DD's Mad Doktor, and NS's Herr Doktor) were from Ginfritters Gnomish Workshop I picked up at GenCon.

The other figures I used the same ruined urban theme that I did for my Urban War figures. Mostly Gale Force Nine's Broken Concrete (broken up plaster sheets) with some bits of sprue, piano wire, frayed wire, barbed wire, window screen patch material, and some Tehnolog Platformer bitz.
